Our church's logo says it all: Grace. Hope. Love. It's that simple. As disciples of Jesus Christ we believe that we are called to be salt and light to the world, to be a source of grace and blessing to those who are hurting, alone, and lost. Our responsibility as Christians is to love in a way that mirrors how God has loved us. As United Methodists we know that this is only possible for us because God's grace has allowed us to do so. And since grace has been given to us, it has been given to everyone, so our most urgent task is to respond to God's gift.
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
We believe that human beings encounter God's transforming Spirit not only through scripture but also through communion, prayer, and fulfilling our duty of making disciples. There is power in the Word, power in the Table, power through prayer and through action: the power to change. We all make mistakes. We all miss the mark. But by grace working through faith, we can find forgiveness and become something new.
As a member of the United Methodist Church, Northport First participates in a global community of faith. This provides us with the opportunity to engage in ministry through our connection with other congregations, through the agencies of the UMC, and through our own, local efforts.
Annually, NFUMC sends a mission team to Jamaica. The church also provides financial support for various local, national, and international ministries, and our branches of the United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, and the church's Missions Team provide us with opportunities to respond to God's love for us through our service to others in our community
NFUMC children's ministry believes that children are a vital part of both the local church and God's Kingdom. Our desire is to partner with families to help children build a solid foundation of faith through nurturing and education. We invite children ages birth through 5th grade to experience God's love and explore their faith during Sunday School (9:00 am) and Children's Worship (during the 10 am service) and through special events and programming. All NFUMC care-givers are thoroughly vetted and trained to provide fun, engaging, and age-appropriate care centered on Christian principles.
We currently offer four different adult classes on Sundays, along with those for children and youth.
As we learn more about our faith, we become better enabled to be sources of God's loving presence in the our community.
Our midweek study has just begun. We are focusing on the book of Romans.
Our worship is "traditional" but has elements from many different worship styles and traditions. It begins with prayer and concludes with the opportunity to respond to the gift of God in Christ Jesus through our prayers, presence, gifts, and resources.
Music is very important to us at Northport First.
Worship gives us a chance to come into contact with God's life-giving Spirit and empowers us for the awesome work we have been asked to perform.
Oasis is a time for us to become better connected, to learn a little, and to have some fun. We start things off with a meal and a song, followed by conversations at our tables and with the entire group about an important topic in faith, and we typically finish the night off with a game. We can be a competitive lot!
